Rainbow Trout

September 23, 2007

Rainbow Trout are found in many tributaries of the Great Lakes watershed, as well as in some inland lakes of Northwestern Ontario.

The rainbow trout is a popular fish because of its fighting ability, it’s beauty, and the distictive flavour of smoked trout. The rainbow trout will rise readily to a dry fly floated downstream with the current and many fly fishing enthusiasts travel the world over to experience the trill and excitement of rainbow trout fishing.  Trout will also take a range of spinners and plugs, as well as various salmon egg baits and yarn flies. Rainbows are also fond of live baits, such as earthworms, minnows, grasshoppers, and grubs.

Rainbows are found in both cold and warmer streams. Swift, turbulent water is preferred, but the fish adapts to a range of conditions in rivers, streams, ponds and lakes.
